Rose's Cornbread

Rose, My Dear Friend

I have used this recipe for over 25 years. I grew up across the street from Rose and started raising my family in the same place, she is a dear friend and confidant. She taught me many things over the years, but I have to tell you this cornbread recipe has to be the best thing she ever taught me. Or, was it how to clean a wash tub full of turtles? No, I'm never going there again, unbelievable!

1 cup Flour 1 Cup Milk
1 Cup Corn Meal 1 Egg
½ Cup Sugar ¼ Cup Oil
2 Tbsp Baking Powder ¼ # Margarine

Melt margarine in a 10" round black iron skillet (if you don't have one, get one) or a baking pan.

Mix dry ingredients together. Mix milk, egg, and oil together and add to dry mixture and stir until well mixed.

Bake in 375 degree oven for 30 minutes.

NOTE: Let me count the ways you can serve cornbread. With figs and milk, with chili, purple hull peas, just milk, butter and syrup, mayonnaise and sliced tomatoes, cornbread dressing . Now add your own favorites, go ahead and try something different!
