What to make for an All-American meal in France?

I’m spending my semester with a host family in France and they all really want me to cook an American meal. I want to, but I have no idea what to make. I need a main course, side dishes, and a dessert.

So what do you all think would be a unique, typical, American meal? (fyi: I’m from New York State, I know the region frequently matters on this. For example, though awesome, I’m not going to make creole food, that’s not something I would have back in the states.)

Any suggestions are welcome!

All of the people who answered have very creative answers, but fail to realize that some if not all there suggestions are impossible in France, they do sell the crap that is normal in the US, I would go for the apple pie, but use a selection of french apples, fried chicken is another idea, even a spaghetti with meat sauce, Europeans are not familiar with the US style meat sauce or meatballs.

I am a former chef from Canada and cooked in Hotels and was in France for awhile in the mid 1990′s, and try something that is easy and you can handle, if you could get you hands on some smoked deli meat to make a reuben sandwich there is another idea, but US style corned beef and pastrami is hard to come buy but french cooked ham would be a good substitute.

okayy so im kindof on a diet and trying to eat anything under 300 calories but my family is going to a …?

sports bar for dinner. What would be under 300 calories? I was thinking a turkey burger w/ just ketchup on a bun. heres the rest of the menu and im not a big fan of salads or soups or things w/ alot of vegetables or seafood…

What is a better choice for food during pregnancy-Grilled ckn, cajun pasta, or roast beef sandwich?

I would like some cajun chicken pasta from chili’s or should I get a roast beef sandwich from Arby’s-or maybe some grilled chicken from KFC-which one would be a healthier choice for me?

If you’d read up on nutrition you’d know that all of those are pretty healthy choices. There’s no need to ask what’s o.k. for every little thing you eat or do. I bet you’re the type to freak out every time you so much as fart?

Does anyone have a good recipe for green olive salad used for muffelatta sandwich, a cajun recipe?

NEW ORLEANS MUFFELATTA WITH OLIVE
SALAD

SANDWICH:

Pita bread or lg. round loaf
Good sliced ham
Genoa salami, sliced
Provolone cheese, sliced
Swiss cheese, sliced

OLIVE SALAD:

3 cloves garlic, crushed
1 c. stuffed green olives, crushed or broken
1 c. black olives, sliced
1 c. olive oil
2 tbsp. parsley
2 tbsp. white vinegar

Mix all ingredients of olive salad and refrigerate at least 1 hour. Slice bread, drizzle olive oil on each piece, layer ham, salami, cheeses thickly. Top with olive salad, about 1-2 tablespoons. May be eaten cold or heated in a hot oven until cheese melts.

what are some ways to eat shrimp?

I’ve tried to barbecue it, boil it, broil it, bake it, saute it. I’ve made shrimp-kabobs, shrimp creole, shrimp gumbo. Pan fried, deep fried, stir-fried, pineapple shrimp, lemon shrimp, coconut shrimp, pepper shrimp, shrimp soup, shrimp stew, shrimp salad, shrimp and potatoes, shrimp burger, and shrimp sandwich. But what other ways of cooking it are there?

Shrimp Quesadillas are my family’s favorite. A bit high in fat, though.

Start by making a quick Shrimp Scampi:

1 1/2 pounds large shrimp (about 16 to 24)
1/3 cup butter
4 tablespoons minced garlic
2 tbs lemon juice.

Melt butter and add shrimp, garlic and juice. Cook about 2 minutes until shrimp are pink. Set shrimp aside and keep warm.

Then wipe out your skillet, spray with Cooking Spray.

Layer shrimp, your choice of cheese and any other ingredients you wish (onions, salsa) between two tortillas and pan-grill until cheese is melted and both sides are crispy.

YUMMY!!!

What should I eat for supper tonight?

I’m in Lafayette, LA, a real hot bed for some of the best food in the world, including cajun food and seafood, and I just don’t know what I should eat. My wife and I were planning to go and eat out,but our son, a student at LSU, called and asked her to design, create, and complete by tomorrow, his intermerial basketball teams jerseys. So now I’m going to pick up food somewhere, while she works on their jerseys, and I don’t know where. Any suggestions are appreciated.

The crawfish are in early season, so does someone have a stand close to your home. That would be quick and easy. I’m from Louisiana also and we had pulled pork sandwiches for supper. They were homemade but some bought ones would be good too.
