I took a 2 week break from the web and vlogging but I’m back and ready to start uploading videos again. This weekend in Hampton Roads, Va. we are rocking with festivals and I’m going to try my best to attend as many as possible to record the fun.

Here’s what’s happening:
The 43rd annual Hampton Jazz Festival will take place June 25-27, 2010
at the Hampton Coliseum.

Friday, June 25, 7:30 PM

Hours for this year’s event at Mill Point Park are 4:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. on Friday June 25, 11:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. on Saturday June 26, and 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday June 27. Hours for the Carousel Park portion of the event are 11:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 26 only. American food preferences?

Which American cuisine do you like the best? Here are the options:
~ New England (clam chowder, boiled dinners, baked beans, lobster, maple syrup, etc.)
~ New York Deli style (mostly German/Jewish cuisine)
~ Pennsylvania Amish (doughnuts, egg noodles, etc.)
~ Southern (Chesapeake seafood, BBQ, Smithfield ham, Low Country, Cajun/Creole, Appalachian, cornbread, biscuits, grits, blackberry cobbler, etc.)
~ Southwestern (AKA Tex-Mex)
~ Midwestern (basic meat and potatoes type dishes, Chicago deep dish pizza, Pierogies, etc.)

This is done out of boredom, just curious.

Southern all the way! I love me some BBQ sauce! And potoatoes. And cornbread. And biscuits. And steak. And butter. And corn. And blackberry stuff. And cotton. And grits.


why is cajun food so spicy?

I’m doing a project about Louisiana food and i really need this question answered! please help me any websites or personal opinion is great thanks

when Cajuns moved from Canada into Louisiana they we poor country folks.and the land on which they settled was not the best..usually in the swampy areas…where most foods they were accustomed to eating would not grow…so they ate what was available to them and things that could be grown in that area,,like alligator…and rice..and okra…as time went by the food was influenced by other cultures like the Spanish and native American,,who introduced the heat factor to Cajun cooking.

recipe’s please?

i would like any recipe’s for authentic creole cooking and authentic american meat loaf .
and some sauces ,eg barbeque,piri,creole.

I don’t know if this is authentic, but it’s the meatloaf recipe I use, and the family loves it.

1.5 lb. ground chuck
1 packet dry onion soup mix
3/4 c. shredded cheddar cheese
1 egg
1/2 c. crushed Ritz crackers
1/4 c. ketchup
1/4 c. A-1 steak sauce

Mix all well. Put in loaf pan and bake in preheated 350 degree oven for about an hour.

New Orleans non-cajun restaurants?

I am not a fan of cajun food (too spicy, don’t eat seafood), but will be in New Orleans for a wedding in June. I’m looking for suggestions for restaurants of other cuisines (Italian, American, Mexican, Chinese, etc.)

I’m from New Orleans and I can tell you, Cajun resturaunts are not the dominant resturaunt market. I grew up in Lakeview close to Metairie and the resturaunts there are quite diverse.
So this will be mostly Metairie Locations which I know is more up and running then New Orleans.

For steaks try Crazy Jonnies in Fat City which is Metairie.

For italian try anything that’s not a franchise, someone above mentioned Italian Pie, they have good pizzas. But there are others that do much more. Faustos in Metarie is another good one.

Zea’s Rotessiore is great for something different, I used to work there so they made me try everything on the menu. Everything is delicious and if I remeber right there’s one location that makes it’s own beer in Clearview Mall.

My favorite chineese resturaunt was Golden Dragon in Metairie. It’s family owned and run, and the food is great. Plus they make a good Mai Tai.

Ok and po-boys, you gotta have one before you leave. Go to Parrans (I know im not spelling it right its pronounced pierans) which is in Metairie. (I suggest roast beef..yumm) My mom suggests Jam’s which is also in Metairie, there you will get a tastse of New Orleans hospitality.

At least once finish a meal off with dessert at a coffee house I suggest Cafe Cafe in Metairie or La Madelines. And try Morning call one morning for coffee and benietes.

Ok now for the french quarter:
Breakfast: Cafe du monde
Lunch: Central Grocery Store for mufellatas or Masparos
Now I must warn you about the Quarter at night. It’s not very safe, especially if you walk close to the allies. Stay away from the allies! Travel in a group at night and don’t get too tispy. I hope you have a great trip and be safe.


What is the difference between Cajun and Creole food?


I lived in New Orleans for a few years and here’s what I saw as the difference/similarities.

Creole cooking is influenced by French, Spanish, French Caribbean, African, and American.

Cajun is mainly influenced by French since Cajuns are decendants of the French Acadians. Also, Cajun food is more country cooking (rustic as some would describe it) using what can be hunted.

However, the two cultures/cuisines pretty much share the same influences being in Southern Louisiana living side-by-side, as a result the cuisines are more similar than different.

I have to disgree with the previous poster.
Creole food is typically the upscale food – Arnaud’s, Antoine’s, Brennan’s and Commander’s Palace are all "Creole" restaurants. These are fancy high ticket restaurants.
