What kind of drink with a Cajun dinner? (Alcohol!)?

We’re having a Cajun themed cook out and we can’t figure out what kind of alcohol to have with it. Mixed or shots or whatever, what goes?!

these people only drink beer, so any american bottled beer would be OK.

The way the beer is served is they get a big insulated plastic box called a "cool box". Then they fill this with crushed ice and place the beer in the ice. They have a "thing" about warm beer, they can only drink cold beer for some reason. -and they always wrap something round the bottle so their hands don’t get wet.

Gumbo Party!?

My husband and I are having some freinds over for dinner, and in traditional southern fashion, I am going to make a big pot of gumbo. I need some ideas for an appetizer to serve beforehand. I would like it to compliment the gumbo (chicken and andouille sausage), so bring on your cajun and creole recipes. I would like to avoid anything with alcohol or seafood, as I am pregnant and my buddies and my husband are not big seafood people (I know, it’s crazy…). Thanks in advance!

I’m not invited ????

Can you help me think of a "signature" drink for a restaraunt?

I work at a restaraunt with a cajun / seafood / Mardis Gras theme. It just opened recently, but is extremely successful. One problem…the owner is trying to think of a "signature" drink. For instance, Logan’s is known for their Long Island Iced Tea. We need a mixed – like alcoholic drink. I told her that i knew just who to ask…10 points to the best drink!!! (Keep in mind that it should be one that men & women would both like.)

in a Hurricane glass top with ice, add:
One shot of white tequila,
One Shot of Potato Vodka
One Shot of Light Rum
Fill with Sweet and Sour
1/2 oz. of lime juice
Stir
Float with 1/2 shot of Blue Curacao
Put a straw in
Garnish with Orange slice and cherry speared with umbrella or long pick.

named : Roughrider

Edit: This is a powerful cocktail, on par with Long Island Ice Tea as they have about the same alcohol content. You can rename it "FAT TUESDAY" if you like.

Need a specific white wine for cooking?

I don’t drink wine, so I am not sure which I would like. I am looking for a white wine to cook into shrimp creole. I definitely don’t know much about wine so any suggestions would be appreciated. Can you tell me the type and the brand (if you have one you like to cook with). Thanks

When it comes to cooking with wine, red or white you want to make sure it’s a wine that you wouldn’t mind drinking. So taste it first. You also want to stick to a dryer wine unless its for a desert like poached pears. My go to is chardonnay but you can choose whatever dry white wine you like and it doesn’t have to be expensive, just tasty. You have to remember that when you cook with alcohol it will intensify the flavor so if its bad tasting then it will only be worse in the dish. I also tend to stay away from cooking wines and sherrys because they tend to be more vinegary and acidic. I really like Robert Mondavi wines because they are very drinkable and very affordable.

What is the best alcoholic drink to go along with Cajun food?

crawfish etouffee, jambalya, dirty rice, gumbo, bbq shrimp, po’ boys – all the usual suspects
beer is not very specific – Dixie & Bud is definetely more to the point!
Thanks.
Margaret – ha ha, I would never finish a meal if I drank straight bourbon with my meal!
For what it’s worth, since i also like hot Thai food, cajun really isn’t that spicy to me. It is good however!
Can you purchase Dixie beer outside of LA state?
I just found out about a new Cajun cafe here & am going to check it out.
The owners are ex-pat New Orleans citizens forced out by Katrina – think I’ll go support ‘em.

Easy! Only ONE to have of course! I live in Louisiana, 90 miles from New Orleans, and the ONLY drink is BUDWEISER beer! Goes PERFECT with ANY cajun food! Ask a cajun!
